'China and the West in the 21st Century' - Cambridge Network Open Meeting with Will Hutton

A panel of experts - including Ting Zhang of China Business Solutions, Tudor Brown, chief operating officer of ARM, and Paul Johnson, founder and former president of Cyan Technology - join commentator Will Hutton to discuss the role of China in the 21st Century at CN's Open Meeting at 18:00 on Thursday 31st January at New Hall, Cambridge.

If your company is involved in business with China - or aspires to be - this meeting is not to be missed!

From his recent book 'The Writing on the Wall: China and the West in the 21st Century', Will Hutton looks at the uneasy relationship between China and the West in light of the former's phenomenal economic growth - seen by many Western analysts as a threat.

Will Hutton, former editor of the Observer and current CEO of The Work Foundation, argues that the West should embrace China and seek to promote better governance within the country by adhering to fundamental principles such as the rule of law as an example of progress.

Enabled by generous sponsorship from ARM and UK Trade and Investment, and in collaboration with Chaplaincy to People at Work, Cambridge Network is bringing this controversial debate to Cambridge with an added local perspective. Many Cambridge science and technology companies are involved in supply chains which ultimately end in China or in areas of research and development which are already being addressed by the Chinese.

Will Hutton began his career as a stockbroker and investment analyst, before working in BBC TV and radio as a producer and reporter. Prior to joining The Work Foundation, Will spent four years as editor in chief of the Observer and he continues to write a weekly column for the paper.

Will’s presentation will be followed by the Q&A session, chaired by Cambridge Network CEO Peter Hewkin, which proimises a lively and interesting debate about working with China in the 21st Century and how we come to terms with it. The meeting - which takes place from 6pm at New Hall, Cambridge - will finish with a networking drinks reception.

Places are free to individual Cambridge Network members or any member of staff of corporate member organisations - to register attendance please follow this link.
